Candace N. Schaedel ’11 was one of two students to receive the Janet E. Walbert Leadership Award at Arcadia University’s 2011 Honors Convocation. The award is presented to a senior (or seniors) who demonstrates a significant depth and breadth of leadership experience that enhance student life on campus. Originally named the Dean of Students Leadership Award upon its inception in 1990, the award was renamed this past year to honor the efforts of Dr. Janet E. Walbert, who served as Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs for 21 years.

“Candace is a senior majoring in Communications with a minor in Theater,” said Assistant Professor Mark Wade. “She participated in the First Year Study Abroad Experience (FYSAE) in Ireland, was an Orientation Leader, a member of the Orientation Planning Executive Committee, a Peer Mentor for a First Year Seminar, a FYSAE mentor, and a Day on Campus Host. She currently is a Resident Assistant, a choreographer for the Knight Club, a member of For the Women, the Arcadia Christian Fellowship, and the Studio Sketch Musical Theater club.”

Daniel S. Phillips ’11, who received the 2011 Senior Golden Disc Award, was also honored with this award.
