Arcadia Thanks ‘Covenant’ Supporters With Food, Song In the Castle

More and more people are including Arcadia University in their estate planning—through bequests in wills, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and life insurance. “We include them all in our Covenant Society, because these commitments to Arcadia go beyond annual giving and are a binding pledge (covenant) with us that will survive them,” says Jan Walbert, Vice President for Development.

“We have the largest number ever of alumni and friends in the Covenant Society—161 as of September 2011, when more than 25 of them came to campus to have a private luncheon with President Carl (Tobey) Oxholm III and his wife, Kim, in Grey Towers Castle,” notes Walbert. They were treated to some very special entertainment: six Broadway musical songs by students under the direction of Mark Wade, Assistant Professor and Director of Theater Arts. The students who performed were: Kara Laus ’14, Olivia Lantz ’14, Kelsey Hodgkiss ’14, Jamie Dagen ’14, Meghan Wahl ’13 and Jackie Sherman ’12. When the students finished, there wasn’t a dry eye in the Dining Room.

“Many things contribute to making Arcadia a very special place,” said President Oxholm to the room of supporters, “but the constant theme throughout the decades and across the majors is the incredibly personal experiences that our students have with their professors. They are not just joyous and personally fulfilling, but life-changing.”

“We thank and celebrate you who have joined our Covenant Society because you are expressing your personal confidence that Arcadia is here to stay as an institution of excellence. By making arrangements for a deferred gift now, you are helping to ensure a bright future for us and for the students who, but for your gifts, could never even hope to be part of the Arcadia family.”

President Oxholm has issued a call for alumnae and alumni to come together in support of their University by making a planned gift.
