Dr. Jennifer Riggan, Assistant Professor and Director of International Studies, is the lead author of  “Meta-travel: A critical inquiry into a China study tour,” a paper recently published in Frontiers: The Journal of Study Abroad. The article analyzes a study tour to China in order to develop a framework for reflection during short-term study travel, which the authors call “meta-travel.” Riggan and co-authors argue that participants on short-term study tours can experience deeper emotional and intellectual transformation by engaging in an intentional critical reflection process.
