Softball Travels to Misericordia for ECAC Division III South Championship

The fifth-seeded Arcadia University softball team will travel to top-seeded Misericordia University for the double-elimination portion of the 2014 ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament May 10-11.

Ticket Information: Single-day admission is $8 for adults, and $4 for seniors, students and children under 12. There are no weekend passes or complimentary tickets.

About Arcadia: The fifth-seeded Knights are 21-21 overall for the season, and advanced to the weekend following a 6-2 single-elimination victory at fourth-seeded Neumann University Wednesday. Sophomore Erin Wilson is 13-8 with a 1.78 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 133.2 innings of work this season, and will be looked upon to lead the Knights to the title. Classmate Sarah Gunia is 7-10 with a 4.06 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 108.2 innings, and is batting .288 with 32 hits, eight doubles, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. She’ll play at second base when not in the circle. Sophomore Alicia McMahon is batting a team-best .405 with a team-best 51 hits, seven doubles, 21 RBI and 17 runs scored. Senior Jessica Wood is batting .328 with 44 hits, 21 runs scored and team-leading totals of 14 doubles and 29 RBI. Classmate Leanda Helms is batting .321 with 35 hits, 16 RBI and nine runs scored.

Arcadia vs. The Field: The Knights’ lone regular season opponent among the other three teams playing this weekend was Alvernia. The two teams split the regular season doubleheader and were 1-1 against each other in the Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament last weekend. The Knights pulled out a 5-2 first round win before later dropping a 2-1 elimination game decision.

About Alvernia: The third-seeded Crusaders are 22-14 for the season, and advanced to the weekend with a 5-3 win over sixth-seeded Penn State-Behrend Wednesday. Alvernia eliminated Arcadia on its way to the Commonwealth Conference title game. Junior Brittanie Wolfe is 13-11 with a 2.95 ERA in 158.2 innings, while freshman Brianna Fisher is 7-1 with a 4.14 ERA in 58.2 innings. Fellow Freshman Amanda Turner is batting .396 with 42 hits, nine  doubles, eight homers, 29 RBI and 17 runs scored, while classmate Brianna DePriest is batting .333 with 11 hits, nine runs scored and six RBI in her 18 games played. Sophomore Aly Shilling is batting .325 with 37 hits, five doubles, four homers, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored.

About McDaniel: The second-seeded Green Terror are 27-15 for the season following their 3-0 opening round win over seventh-seeded Cabrini Thursday. Junior Caroline Brehm is 24-11 in the circle with a 1.37 ERA and 352 strikeouts in 240.1 innings of work. Senior Rachel Sidney is batting .377 with 52 hits, 12 doubles, six triples and 36 runs scored for the season. She leads the team in each of those categories. Classmate Stephanie Maring is batting .359 with 47 hits, nine doubles, a team-leading 33 RBI and 26 runs scored, while fellow senior Jaclyn Liebowitz is batting .307 with 33 hits, eight doubles, 16 RBI and 12 runs scored.

About Misericordia: The top-seeded and host Cougars are 24-15 on the season and received a first-round bye in the seven-team tournament field. Freshman Bailee Schies is 13-6 with a 2.77 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 118.2 innings, while senior Jess Armillay is 8-8 with a 4.09 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 97.2 innings. Junior Megan Hardy is batting a team-best .395 with 49 hits, eight doubles, 12 homers, 39 RBI and 23 runs scored, while classmate Kristi Seiler is batting .374 with 46 hits, nine doubles, 15 RBI and 18 runs scored. Fellow junior Sam Hare is batting .353 with 36 hits, seven doubles, 17 RBI and a team-leading 24 runs scored this season.
