Giorgio Galbussera, full-time adjunct professor of modern languages, presented a paper titled “Future Past: A Country for/as Old Men” at the Conference of the American Association for Italian Studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.

The paper examines the portrayal of aging male bodies and masculinity in crisis in contemporary Italian cinema. The declining body is used in a number of recent films as a symbol of a whole country in the midst of economic and political crisis, reflecting the current anxieties about crisi, social decadence and lack of a future.
