Students and alumni of the Master of Arts in Counseling program, Program Director Dr. Eleonora Bartoli, and Assistant Professors of Psychology Dr. Michael Morrow and Dr. Hsin-Hua Cathy Lee presented on counseling techniques at the 47th Annual Pennsylvania Counseling Association (PCA) Conference Nov. 6-8 at the Penn Stater Conference Center in State College.

Chris Walter ’01M and Dr. Bartoli presented “Masters in Counseling Accreditation Committee: Using Accreditation Standards to Address Social Justice in Counselor Education Programs,” exploring systemic injustices and their consequences in counseling and the students themselves.

Christine Vincent ’17M and Dr. Morrow presented on “The Moderating Impact of Parental Grief on the Relation Between Negative Parenting Behavior and Child Aggression,” focusing on the connection between families plagued by grief and negative parenting and child aggression.

Rachel Johnson ’16M and Dr. Lee presented “A Study of Asian American Biculturals,” discussing the lack of information on family-based treatment for Asian Americans.

Lisa Brutko ’16M, Emily Cox ’15M, Stacey Herreid-Halstead ’15M, Alex Mamolou ’14M, and Dr. Bartoli presented “READY, MindSET, GO! Increasing Students’ Resilience in Learning in Counselor Education Programs,” which focused on increasing empathy and including a training program for building resilience (the group also presented that topic at the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) Conference in Philadelphia in October).

Arcadia students and faculty received awards for outstanding counseling services.

Dr. John Hoffman, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, received the PCA Outstanding Administrator Award for outstanding institutional administrators who have demonstrated support of the profession.

Brutko received the PCA Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Pennsylvania graduate students in professional counseling who show excellent potential and professionalism.

The October ACES Conference also featured a presentation by Christian Gaskin Dozier ‘13M, Mamolou, Dr. Bartoli, and Dr. Morrow on integrating multicultural and evidence-based curricula in counselor education.

“Some of the participants commented that we sounded like a doctoral, not a master’s, program,” said Dr. Bartoli of the October conference. “Other faculty asked us if we could consult with them to raise the standard of their programs.”
