Andrew DeSousa ’16, Stephen DeChristopher ’13, ’17M, and Timothy Hyers ’18 presented research on the automatic computer-generation of music at the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges conference at Frostburg State University on Oct. 28. With Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics Kathy Macropol supervising, the students used a Markovian process to create an innovative system capable of auto-generating musical rhythms that match a given set of lyrics.

This research stemmed from a class project the team began during a Data Mining course at Arcadia. An earlier version was previously presented as a poster at the 2016 Sigma Xi Research Symposium.
