Art History Students Present ‘Camera Work’ Exhibition

By RetterJ | April 27, 2018

“Camera Work: Making a Medium,” an exhibition curated by students in the Art History program’s Make an Exhibition seminar, features Arcadia’s collection of Camera Work, a photographic journal edited by Alfred Stieglitz and published in the United States between 1903 and 1917.

A panel discussion on April 25, led by distinguished local photographers, examined how Camera Work revolutionized perceptions of photography by demonstrating that it could be used to create fine art. The installation includes four issues and eighteen prints from Camera Work, which illuminate Stieglitz’s design aesthetic and the evolution of his photographic processes.

“Camera Work” will be on display in the Rosedale Gallery through June 24. Contact Elizabeth Ferrell at ferrelle@arcadia.edu or 510-225-8599 for more information.
