Scavenger Hunt Helps Students Overcome Language Barriers

International and American students in Arcadia’s Math and Actuarial Science programs searched for objects hidden around campus during a student-organized scavenger hunt on Nov. 6. Organized by Alyssa Grandmont ’20 and Di Zhu ’21, the hunt helped students get to know one another better.

Participants, in groups of three, were given a list, written in English and Chinese, of 15 items to find. They had to overcome any communication barriers they may have had by working together during the hunt.

“It pushed them to talk to strangers and try to understand the culture of a different country,” said Zhu.

The hunt’s winners, Jacob Quintero ’22 and Allen Xu, found the items in the shortest amount of time.
