Arcadia students, faculty, and friends came out to highlight cultures from around the world at the annual Celebrating Cultures event on Nov. 20. The event, which was part of Arcadia’s International Education Week, featured food, presentations, and performances of music and dance to represent the cultures of the University community.

“I think it means a lot to have an event that allows people to be represented,” said event co-organizer Delia Pineda ’20, an International Business major, who worked with the Office of International Programs (OIP) to set up the event. “I’m Ecuadorian, so I know what it’s like to think you don’t have a place to belong, but events like this let’s everyone know there is a place for you on campus.”

Celebrating Cultures has been a staple at Arcadia for more than 30 years. The event not only featured Arcadia students, but was put together by them. This year saw a presentation for Catholicism from Arcadia’s Newman Club as well as one from Arcadia’s Anime Club. 

“I think it goes to show the real diversity on campus,” said event co-organizer Grace Lewis ’22, an International Studies and Political Science double major. “Having everyone come and represent their family’s or their country’s culture shows how much Arcadia values diversity.” 

International Education Week is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote international education and cultural exchange worldwide and encourage students to be more prepared for a global environment.
