Dr. Philip Malloy, assistant professor of Physical Therapy, published “Hip Biomechanics During a Single-Leg Squat: 5 Key Differences Between People with Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) Syndrome and Those Without Hip Pain” in the December edition of the Journal of Orthopedics and Sports Physical Therapy.

Previous research found that double-leg squats could show the difference in biomechanics of the hip between patients with FAI syndrome and those without pain; however, limited research had been conducted with the single-leg squat. In this paper, researchers found that the differences in hip biomechanics between people with FAI syndrome and those without pain were more evident during a single-leg squat compared to the double-leg squat task.

The paper was published in collaboration with Dr. Donald A. Neumann, professor at Marquette University, and Dr. Kristof Kipp, associate professor at Marquette University.
