On the evening of Friday, February 28, the U.S. Department of State increased its Travel Advisory Level for Italy to Level 3: Reconsider Travel, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) elevated their warning to Level 3: Avoid Nonessential Travel. In light of these changes, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our students, Arcadia University has suspended its on-site programming in Rome, Florence, and Perugia for spring 2020 semester. Yesterday evening, the Crisis Response Team contacted students in Italy, their parents, and their home schools to notify them of the change and to share information about next steps.
Students have been asked to depart Italy on or before Friday, March 6. Our staff are providing support to students who need assistance in making arrangements.
We are committed to providing students the opportunity to complete their academic program at a distance. We are working with academic partners in Perugia and Florence as well as the Arcadia Rome Center staff and faculty to ensure course completion and credit for students on our programs.
Communication regarding completion of the academic program will begin on March 9, with resumption of academic activity occurring soon thereafter.
We are actively working to identify any recoverable fees related to the program cancellation that will be passed on to students.
