Explore the World with Arcadia

By Jen Retter | March 1, 2020

My name is Jules Turner, and I am a senior Computer Science major at Arcadia. I want to tell you a bit about the study abroad opportunities I’ve taken advantage of.

Heraion of Perachora, Greece

My first year here, I went to Greece on Preview, through which students take a two-credit course during their spring semester, then go abroad for spring break. My course focused on oracles and divination in Ancient Greece. We saw the Parthenon in Athens, explored ruins in Delphi, hiked a mountain in Livadia, ate amazing food, and made lasting friendships. After Preview, I had to see more of the world.

I chose Arcadia’s London Internship Program, and took interesting classes with cultural excursions to art museums, plays, and more. At my internship, I helped build a start-up company’s web presence and ate lunch with the CEOs every day.

While abroad, I saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris; visited the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam; and ate a lot of chocolate in Berlin. It helped that my financial aid package applied to my tuition and housing abroad. I also received two supplemental scholarships, totaling $9,500!

When I came back from my semester abroad, I became a Study Abroad Mentor to encourage others to take advantage of all the world has to offer. I hope you do, too!
