Fall Semester Update for Faculty and Staff
Many of you have submitted questions on the status of campus, resources available, and office hours for the Fall semester. In general, the campus will be closed to events, groups, and regular visits; the following is an update that addresses specific questions and concerns.
Faculty or staff coming to campus: Anyone coming to campus should notify Public Safety (215-572-2999) with the date, time, and building(s) they will be visiting. Faculty and staff needing to pick up items from an office should keep campus visits brief and occasional, and follow the above procedure. Individuals should not plan to work on campus regularly, unless this has been approved by your supervisor. Faculty and staff members on campus should secure areas they’ve accessed, turn off equipment upon departure, and notify Public Safety of any incidents or damages they see.
University buildings: Many University buildings will remain serviceable, though heating and cooling will be on setbacks at night, causing buildings to be warmer than usual during the summer and fall months (summer temperatures will be set at 78 degrees, while winter temperatures will be set at 65 degrees). All unnecessary equipment has been powered down but can be reactivated as needed. Certain educational buildings are functioning as normal, such as Boyer Hall, Brubaker Hall, Easton Hall, and the Commons, as they continue to be used. Off-campus buildings remain operational. Faculty and staff should unplug any equipment when not in use.
University equipment: Employees wishing to bring home University equipment for remote work usage should talk to their supervisor on the appropriate process and accessibility of the requested equipment.
Housekeeping and trash collection: Facilities will conduct cleaning operations for offices and campus spaces, so it is important for departments and offices to alert them as to when staff members will be working on campus in those spaces.
Undergraduates on campus: Some requests have been made by faculty or staff members to have undergraduate students on campus at specific times during fall semester for occasional participation in research projects or other academic initiatives. Any request will be considered for approval on a case-by-case basis.
Landman Library: Most of Landman Library’s resources and services remain fully accessible online, including one-on-one research consultations, interlibrary loan, and all online databases and resources, which include hundreds of thousands of ebooks, streaming films, online academic journals, and more. Library faculty are fully accessible online to provide research and instructional support for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Beginning on the first day of classes, Aug. 31, Landman Library will begin loaning physical materials through a new “curbside pickup” service, Books2Go, which will include print interlibrary loan. Community members can place requests for books through the online library catalog or interlibrary loan form and will receive notifications when items are ready for contactless pickup at Mail and Print Services. Requests will be filled twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, with access to Mail and Print in the Dining Hall Complex Monday through Friday. The Library is not mailing items at this time. Also, print interlibrary loan requests remain subject to limited availability, as many other libraries remain closed or are only offering limited lending services. Athletics facilities: All Athletics facilities remain closed until further notice. When it is safe to resume on-campus operations, Athletics will inform the University community on its plans for reopening.
Dining Services and vending machines: Dining Services operations are closed. Some vending machines, such as those in Brubaker/Easton, Taylor Hall, and the 777 building, will continue to be stocked. If a building will be occupied consistently and vending is needed, staff members should contact Mimi Bassetti (firstname.lastname@example.org). The Campus Bookstore is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and has snacks and beverages available for purchase.
Mail and Print Services and Campus Bookstore: Beginning Monday, Aug. 24, Mail and Print Services’ hours of operation will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m, Monday through Friday. They are still offering full service. If employees on campus want mail or a copy job delivered to an office, contact Mail and Print Services (215-572-2109, email@example.com). The Campus Bookstore remains available for online purchases.
Office printers: Arcadia has removed Canon printers that were at the end of lease term, relocated some Canon devices owned by the University, and installed new Sharp devices in multiple areas throughout campus. To use the Canon devices, continue to log in with the account code assigned to your department. The new Sharp devices are equipped with card readers that allow for more features, including printing to devices using a KnightCard and secure confidential printing. IT Help Desk: To provide the safest environment possible for our community members as well as IT staff, we have implemented the following guidelines:
- All in-person Help Desk support will be by appointment only.
- IT will continue to default to remote support whenever possible.
- In-person sessions (PPE must be worn by all parties) will be limited to:
- Appointments determined not to be solvable remotely
- Classroom issues
- Equipment hand-offs (University devices that need to be fixed can be dropped off, then picked up separately)
- Training sessions that cannot be provided remotely (e.g., Classroom Technology training)
Staff members with questions about departmental procedures should contact their supervisors for unit-specific plans. The University will continue to provide updates as appropriate.
