Arcadia University Theater Presents: Fugitive Songs, Oct. 1-3

By Daniel DiPrinzio | September 21, 2021

Arcadia University Theater Arts announces full casting and production details for Fugitive Songs by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen. Directed by Associate Professor of Theater & Artistic Director Aaron McAllister, Fugitive Songs will play Stiteler Auditorium from Oct. 1 through Oct. 3.

This innovative song cycle, conceived as half-musical/half-hootenanny, spotlights people on the run: a disgruntled Subway sandwich employee, a jilted ex-cheerleader, a pair of Patty Hearst fanatics, a stoner forced to rob a convenience store against his will, and many others. Blending traditional folk music with contemporary pop and gospel, Fugitive Songs offers a new sound for a restless America.

“It is timely and of this generation and this moment,” says McAllister. “I have certainly learned a lot about myself over the course of the last year and half. I think all of us have. We have all ‘quarantined’ so to speak, and undoubtedly have found ourselves in moments of confinement, solitude, isolation and withdrawal. As such, this captivity leads to insatiable wanting and longing for human connection and tactility. Fugitive Songs is a 19-song cycle that delivers reflections and anecdotes through poignant poetry all capturing someone’s “reasons to run” from such events and feelings.”

Staged in Murphy Hall’s Stiteler Auditorium, McAllister is joined by a creative team that includes scenic designer Rob Napoli, costume designer Mary Folino, lighting designer Joshua Schulman and sound designer Damien Figueras. The musical will be accompanied by a 5-piece band onstage.
