Arcadia Exhibitions is pleased to announce the exhibition “Arcadia Collects: Art, Objects + Ephemera from the University Archives” on display in the Rosedale Gallery from July 5 – December 17, 2023.
Produced in collaboration with Anastasia Rousseau, Project Archivist, the show employs objects, documents, and live demonstrations to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of an active archive.
The show will begin in July with a few essential items displayed in the Rosedale Gallery, including photographs, objects, and ephemera documenting the cultural history of Beaver College / Arcadia University, architectural artifacts and historic photographs from Grey Towers Castle, as well as a selection of Xerographs from the Pati Hill Collection.
Over the duration of the show, the collections on display will grow and evolve, spreading throughout the University Commons. As part of the schedule of events, art professionals will be present in the Commons to share archival collection and preservation processes, host viewings of rare and fragile books and artifacts, and engage in dialogue.
An event to celebrate the openings of “Arcadia Collects: Art, Objects + Ephemera from the University Archives” and “Samantha Mitchell: Land Forms” will be held in the Great Room of the University Commons on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 6:30 PM. The evening will begin with a lecture by Rousseau about the University Archives and the Pati Hill Collection.
Immediately following the talk, a reception will be held in both the Rosedale and Harrison Galleries where artist Samantha Mitchell will be available to discuss her works on paper. Both events are free and open to the public.
