Arcadia Responds to Roe v. Wade Ruling

By Dan DiPrinzio | June 25, 2022

Dear Arcadia Community,

The Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade is profoundly upsetting for many in our community. This decision to revoke the right for women in the U.S. to make informed, personal health decisions disregards 50 years of legal precedent. This decision is a fundamental challenge to our civil rights and threatens to begin an erosion of many liberties that have been granted to many individuals in our nation.

We must continue to advocate and champion women’s rights and value those who experience discrimination and exclusion in our University community and beyond. The Arcadia University and Beaver College legacy is rooted in rights for women, providing access to learning for women in a time when many argued that women did not have the right to an education.

This moment in our history stands to be a stark reminder of the importance of gender equity issues and how they are disproportionate to the rights of underserved women. In Pennsylvania, women still have the right to access abortion. Arcadia’s Student Health Services will continue to support reproductive health care for our students. Counseling Services is available to help our students deal with the emotional impact on community members.

Sincerely,

Ajay Nair, Ph.D.
President
