Arcadia University Ranked Top Producing Institution for Fulbright U.S. Scholars

Arcadia University was ranked by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as a top producer of the 2016-2017 Fulbright U.S. Scholars for the Bachelor’s Institution category.

Faculty members Dr. Kalenda Eaton, associate professor of English, and Dr. Jennifer Riggan, associate professor of Historical and Political Studies, both were named U.S. Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year.

Dr. Eaton was awarded a J. William ​Fulbright Research Chair in Society and Culture at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. From August to December 2016, she explored the relationship between the African/Black Canadian subject, citizenship, and “the politics of belonging” in the Canadian space for a chapter in her forthcoming book on the connection between Black North American identity formation and the quest for citizenship as represented in historical fiction.

Dr. Riggan was awarded a Teaching/Research Fulbright to study how civic education has been implemented in Ethiopian secondary schools, as well as do fieldwork in rural Ethiopia on how child refugees from Eritrea are incorporated into the education system. Dr. Riggan is on sabbatical in Ethiopia until July 2017.
