Arcadia University Theater Presents: “Vanities: The Musical”, Feb. 17-20
Arcadia University Theater Arts announces full casting and production details for Vanities: The Musical with a book by Jack Heifner & music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum. Directed by Theater Arts faculty member & Artistic Director of Philadelphia’s Azuka Theatre Kevin Glaccum, Vanities: The Musical will play Arcadia’s Little Theater Feb. 17-20.
Vanities: The Musical chronicles the life-affirming journey of three vivacious Texas teens from cheerleaders, to sorority sisters, to housewives, to liberated women, and beyond. This musical captures a snapshot-sharp portrait of the lives, loves, disappointments, and dreams of these young women growing up during the turbulent 1960s and 1970s, and their reunion in the late 1980s.
“While Vanities:The Musical focuses on what’s now commonly referred to as the Second Wave of Feminism (1960’s-1980’s) it certainly has plenty to say to the members of the #metoo generation,” says director Glaccum. “The strides made by women 40-50 years ago, while significant, fell far short of the goal of true equality, which #metoo painfully brought to light. There is still an enormous amount of work to be done concerning women’s rights. Vanities is also just a lovely story of life-long friendships and the joys and sorrows those relationships bring.”
Staged in Spruance Fine Arts Center’s Little Theater, Glaccum is joined by a creative team that includes musical director Christopher Burcheri, choreographer Jessica Bostock, dialect coach Diane Gaary, scenic designer Rob Napoli, costume designer Mary Folino, lighting designer Joshua Schulman and sound designer Damien Figueras. The musical will be accompanied by a 5-piece band onstage.
