Major: History, with minors in Law and Public Policy and International Studies

Why Arcadia: Its small class sizes, forming relationships with professors, the opportunity to research with faculty, and the ability to study abroad.

Study abroad, interrupted: Maria had been in Rome, Italy, for five or six weeks for what was supposed to be a semester-long internship program. She was in Venice in spring 2020 when everything locked down.

Honors: A member of the Honors Program, she has been a regular on the Dean’s Distinguished Honor List.

Involvement on campus: Maria enjoys research and has been working as a research assistant for three years at Arcadia, in which she has helped lay the groundwork for the possible establishment of an immigration law clinic on campus. Maria also had internships at the McCain Institute for International Leadership in Washington, D.C., the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center in Rome, and a local law firm in Clarks Summit. 

After Arcadia: This summer, Maria will co-author an article with Hilary Parsons Dick, Assistant Professor of International Studies, that will be published in April 2023. Maria plans to attend law school at Columbia University next year and hopefully intern at The Hague. Ultimately, Maria is interested in prosecuting war crimes and mass atrocities.
