Computer Science majors Maisa Hamdan ’18 and Margaret Blackmon ’18 presented “DeepLang: A Language Learning App Empowered by Deep Learning” alongside Dr. Yanxia Jia, associate professor of Computer Science and Mathematics, at the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Philadelphia Celebration of Women in Computing 2018 (PHICWIC) on April 21.

DeepLang is a mobile app the students and Dr. Jia created to help foreign languages learners using deep learning– a sub-field of Artificial Intelligence– based on practicing pronunciation and writing in Chinese and Japanese.

The 2018 PHICWIC brought together women at high school, undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels to promote recruitment, retention, and progression of women in computing fields.
