Dr. Amy Widestrom, assistant professor of Historical and Political Studies, was chosen for a Clarence Stone Scholar Award by the Urban and Local Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. The Clarence Stone Scholar Award recognizes up to two young scholars who are making significant contributions to the study of urban politics.

Dr. Widestrom was honored at the Business Meeting of the Urban and Local Politics Section on Sept. 2, where she met the awards namesake and leading figure in urban politics, Clarence Stone. Additionally, Dr. Widestrom met with scholars who have published on the carceral state and mass incarceration rates– a field that she hopes to move into.

“I was honored to be acknowledged by leading urbanists for my work,” Dr. Widestrom said. “It’s a great opportunity to connect junior and senior scholars in the field.”
