Staff and faculty honored Dr. Jane Duffy, one of the first graduates of Arcadia’s Doctor of Education in Special Education program, on her retirement after 10 years as Arcadia’s Director of Student Teaching and Fieldwork at a luncheon on May 25.

Duffy started her career in education as a special education teacher in 1970. She received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Hartford, an M.Ed. in Special Education from Temple University, and an Ed.D. in Special Education from Arcadia. She assumed the role of Director of Student Teaching and Fieldwork in 1999. Her responsibilities included developing partnerships with K-12 schools, coordinating field experiences and student teaching in both urban and suburban schools, providing professional development for student teacher supervisors, developing and coordinating seminars for student teachers, advising graduate and undergraduate students regarding state certification, and coordinating the Student Teaching Abroad program in London and Canterbury, United Kingdom.

“Jane has seen many student teachers go on to become excellent teachers, working in more than 20 different school district throughout the Commonwealth, 10 states and 4 different countries,” said President Jerry Greiner. “Many students respect Jane’s professionalism and commitment to excellence. She should be proud of the major impact she has had on their development as professionals.”

In her retirement, Duffy will pursue her new-found skill as an artist.
