Arcadia Great Britain Book Club Members Meet Author Christopher Brookmyre

By Purnell T. Cropper | December 7, 2010

The Arcadia University Great Britain Book Club enjoyed its fourth event in Scotland in October, based around the modern Scottish novel One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night by tartan noir great Christopher Brookmyre.

Book Club participants began their excursion at the Writers’ Museum in Edinburgh, home to exhibits on Scotland’s most famous writers, including Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. They continued their journey through Scottish literary history on a literary walking tour of the city, seeing the very streets, pubs and places that these and other great writers once frequented.

The gathering’s main event was meeting Christopher Brookmyre for lunch and a private talk. Edinburgh program students Ian Gilley and Annie Decker shared the following impression of the meeting:

Christopher Brookmyre turned out to be one of the coolest people we have met during our time in Scotland—his talk was hilarious and gave great insight into cultural nuances of Scotland. Getting to eat lunch with him and making great conversation was the icing on the cake. This was an amazing event and we are so glad we signed up for the Book Club.
