The National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE) has appointed Dr. Doreen Loury, assistant professor of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice, and director of the Pan African Studies Program, to serve on its National Advisory Council (NAC).

As a member of the Council, Dr. Loury will work on the NCORE Leadership and Outreach Committee, as well as provide recommendations to the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies (SWCHRS), its Executive Committee, and to NCORE staff for the planning of the annual NCORE conference. The three-year appointment will run through 2020.  

Dr. Loury was selected for her commitment to improving equity and inclusion in higher education. She is executive director and founder of the nationally renowned Black Male Development Symposium and has received several awards throughout her career, including the Education Award from the Black Women’s Educational Alliance of Montgomery County in 2013, the Charles Henry Chapman award in 2012, and the Faculty Development Award at the 2012 Global Faculty Development Workshop for the Center for U.S. and Hemispheric Studies.  She is the first African American professor at Arcadia to be awarded the coveted Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2010, and she also received the University’s Cultural Ally Award in 2009. Dr. Loury is the first vice president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Black Women in Higher Education and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated, Phi Beta Omega Chapter.
