The Mayor’s Office of Philadelphia presented a citation to members of the Arcadia University community for their work over the past 10 years with the Black Male Development Symposium (BMDS).

Dr. Doreen Loury, assistant professor of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice at Arcadia University and BMDS founder and chair, along with Dr. Angela McNeil, director of the Act 101/Gateway to Success Program, and doctoral student Stephen Tyson ’13M, and other members of the BMDS advisory committee were honored on May 8.

BMDS provides a forum for practical solutions, with presenters and interactive workshops that assist attendees in developing realistic, intergenerational strategies and concrete recommendations that they can put into practice in their respective communities. The upcoming symposium on Saturday, May 13 at Arcadia University will examine, articulate, and develop strategies to overcome the intergenerational challenges experienced by young and older black males alike.
